Great Decisions Discussion Group
The Great Decisions eight-month discussion series is designed to engage citizens in learning about the world. Participants will read from the Great Decisions briefing book, which features impartial thought-provoking analyses on eight issues of concern to policymakers today. Pick up the book at the adult information desk starting mid January ($15 non-refundable materials fee). Facilitated by John Collins and Stu Shpetner.
Discussions are on the first Tuesdays of the month at 7:15PM from February to September. Class size is limited so please register early.
March 2: Kenya & R2P
Post-election rioting in Kenya in December 2007 brought pressure on Nairobi, from international and regional diplomats, to end tensions and avert bloodshed on a massive scale. What lessons can be learned from the intervention in Kenya? What does it mean for the UN’s emerging responsibility to protect doctrine?
Future topics include: US - China Security Relations, Global Financial Crisis, Russia and It’s Neighbors, Persian Gulf, Peace Building and Conflict Resolution.
Book Discussion
The Library holds a monthly book discussion group on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30PM. The group is led by the Head of Adult Services, Delys de Zwaan. Books may be picked up at the adult information desk in the reference room. Check our events calendar for upcoming titles. New participants are always welcome.
Children’s Book Discussion Groups
The Library currently has a “4-6 Grade Book Discussion Group," a “Just for Guys” discussion and a "Just for Gals" discussion group. Get more information at the children’s reference desk, or check our online events calendar.
YA Science Fiction/Fantasy Book Discussion Group
Nancy Wendt is now leading a discussion group for tweens in grades 6-9. The focus of the group is science fiction and fantasy books. New participants are always welcome. The group meets every six weeks. Look in the calendar of events for more information.
